Zamość – Lublin, Poland

The city of Zamość is one of Europe’s finest examples of a Renaissance city located in the southeast of Poland.  In other words. this historic center was inspired in the Italian cities.

Over there, you will have a marvelous experience while discovering all its amazing edifications and secrets.

Activity/Place Highlights

A first, in Zamość you can start your experience by appreciating the Renaissance architecture that surrounds it with its Polish touch.

After that, you can go visiting the main square on the market. Once there, you will see not only the beautiful houses decorated but their friezes, reliefs, frescoes, and false fronts.

Therefore, you will find the Town Hall, with its magnificent clock and imposing fan staircase. On the other hand, you can’t leave without visiting its Arsenal Museum and its fascinating Cathedral.

Town Hall

Dominating the square and fronted by its staircase you’ll find the Town Hall. This amazing clock was placed in the north in order to don’t overshadow the palace. Consequently, each day at noon you can appreciate how the bugler plays the town’s traditional song.

Arsenal Museum

Right along with the city’s western bastions, you’ll find the three separate areas that represent the military hardware of the city. After that, you’ll get to know here all the city’s fortifications with amazing multimedia effects of the town’s past.

Cathedral

Created by Morando in the XIV Century this is an amazing mausoleum which still keeps its original interior features. Straight ahead you will notice the authentic Lublin Renaissance-style vault and the amazing stucco work.

How to get there

There are different ways to get to the Zamosc city from Lublin Airport (LUZ). The main ways are a train, taxi or by driving:

  • By train – Is a 2-hour, 33-minute journey. You’re going to walk around 30 minutes to the Swidnik Wschod station. It costs USD 3-4.

Certainly Zamosc is a city full of art everywhere. You can walk through it the way you want. So, to completely enjoy it I recommend you to take about 2 days.

In Zamosc you will have the square to cross it in the schedule that you prefer. In this way, you will be able to know the daily life or nightlife.

The attraction that has a specific schedule is the Arsenal Museum, it opens from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.

One of the main hotels to stay in this city is the Senator Hotel. Here you can easily book your room. You will also have the Mercure Zamosc Stare Miasto Hotel and the Artis Hotel & Spa. These will have accessible prices if you book in advance.

Besides, when you arrive, you can rent a headset at a tourist office. They will give you a guided tour of the streets and you can cycle through them if you prefer.

Inside Information

Zamosc is known for being a humble city where you won’t find dozens of modern restaurants or bars. Be prepared for cozy restaurants and bars with beautiful architecture. This is a good place to explore the surrounding scenic countryside. Take comfortable clothes that allow you to horseback riding, cycling, and walking.

History

The city of Zamosc arose from the vision of the Polish nobleman Jan Zamoyski in 1590. Similarly, it was inspired by the Italian Renaissance so the architect Bernardo Morando designed what would become a multicultural city.

In it, Armenians, Jews, Hungarians, Greeks, Germans and a great variety of other nationalities were formed. At the same time, Catholic churches, synagogues and even an Orthodox church coexisted in the same square.

Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most charming cities in the world.
