1. Aburi Botanical Garden, Accra

It is a botanical garden of 64.8 hectares of which only 12.2 hectares are developed as a garden and the remaining 52.6 hectares form a botanical reserve. It is an excellent place for photos and socialising. It is said to contain basically all the plants that can be seen in Ghana, and the most amazing thing is the two-row tree walk.

2. Arch of Independence, Accra

The commemorative nature of the site, which celebrates the birth of Ghana’s democracy in 1960 is highlighted by the giant Black Star Monument in front of the arch across the square, symbolising the struggle for black independence. The arch-shaped structure consists of three aluminium tubes made from Guyanese bauxite mounted on a quartz base.

3. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Accra

This is a public space located in the heart of Accra, Ghana. It is dedicated to Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah, who worked for the country’s independence from Britain and was its first ruler to serve as president and prime minister. A mausoleum and museum, a statue and several monuments were built in his honour.

4. Bosumtwi Lake, Ashanti

Lake Bosumtwi is one of Ghana’s natural wonders and the only natural lake in Ghana. The product of an impact crater after a meteor, it is believed to be over a million years old. In local culture, the souls of the dead make pilgrimages to the lake to bid farewell to one of the Akan gods. A beautiful and tranquil place, its natural beauty and serene presence on the edge of the city is welcome.

5. Bojo Beach, Bortianor

It is one of the most beautiful and cleanest beaches in Ghana. Although it is not a very large beach, it is most definitely a good place to come alone or in company to enjoy all it has to offer. Here you will find the Bojo sandbank, which separates two stretches of water, one being freshwater and the other saltwater. The beach is a sort of “sandwich” between a large lagoon and the shore of the immense ocean.

6. Kakum National Park, Central Region

Kakum is a highly recommended park if you are looking for nature and scenery, without much expectation of seeing wildlife. A full day will be enough to see the small part of the reserve that is open to visitors. I recommend spending a night in the park and doing Bird Watching even if you are not very interested in the world of birds.

7. Wli Waterfalls, ‎Hohoe

The Wli Falls are located within the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary and are known to the locals as “Agumatsa Falls”, a very poetic name meaning “let me flow”. The spectacle you will encounter is grandiose, a brutal torrent of water that plunges 80 metres into the forest with a shuddering roar.

8. Kintampo Waterfalls, Kintampo

Source by Axel Drainville – Under Flickr Creative Commons License

Also known as Sanders Falls during the colonial days, it is one of the main natural attractions of the area, it is hidden in the forest and is formed by three main falls where the longest fall measures 25 metres and, after a series of steps and waterfalls, the river falls some 70 metres.

9. Boti Waterfalls, Manya Krobo

It is a mere natural attraction frequented by Ghanaians during rest periods. It has a controversial history, as in the past, several tribes claimed it as their own but it ended up in the public domain. Near the waterfalls you can also pass the ‘umbrella rock’ , a strange rock formation in the vicinity.

10. Umbrella Rock, Yilo Krobo

It is located at the Bodi Falls site. As the name suggests, the overhang at the top is large enough to accommodate 12 to 15 people at a time.
