The following list highlights some of the best beaches in Kenya. So if you are in Kenya, I recommend visiting the following:

Diani Beach

Diani Beach, Ukunda

Diani beach is located in Ukunda. It is a paradisaical beach, of white sand and a wide sea, with many palm trees. Sometimes on its shore you can see some camels walking, if you’re lucky maybe you can even take a little walk on them. There are several local vendors all over the beach who sell their handicrafts, you could buy one as a souvenir.


Nyali Beach

Nyali Beach, Mombasa

Nyali beach is located in Mombasa. It’s a beach with an incredible contrast of colors, you can see how in the water melts the navy blue with the turquoise and its waves come to the shore to join the white sand, in addition to the greenery of its palms. It is a really wide beach, with some huts along its shore. In the water you can see people practising sports like kite surfing or sailing.

Lamu island is located in Kenya. This island is part of the archipelago of Lamu, its length is approximately 10 km. Within the island are several hotels where you can stay to enjoy the variety of its beaches and local culture.

Jomo Kenyatta beach is one of the few (if not the only) public beaches in Kenya, therefore is quite frequented by locals and tourists, the influx of people is great but still is wonderful to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach. You have several options of places to eat, some craft vendors and even a nightclub nearby.


Gazi Beach, Msambweni

Gazi beach is located in Msambweni. It is one of the quietest and least frequented beaches in Kenya. It is surrounded by mangroves and many palm trees, has bright white sand and sky blue water. There are several options of hotels and inns nearby where you could stay to have access to this beach much easier.

Kikambala beach is located in Vipingo House, Kikambala. It’s a fairly rocky beach, you can find some corals and algae on the shore. It is easily accessible, ideal for the whole family, to spend a different day, have a beach picnic and sunbathe.

Shelly Beach is located in Mombasa, in Coastal Kenya. This long stretch of soft white sand offers the perfect atmosphere to relax, with an amazing view and nice weather. The water is warm and safe for swimming, and you can find shade under the trees lining the beach. There is a grocery store in the area. Even during the busiest days, Shelly Beach never feels crowded, and there’s always a spot to sit, sunbathe and relax.

Tiwi Beach is located in Tiwi, south of Mombasa, in Coastal Kenya. White sand, verdant palm trees, and bright blue waters welcome you once you reach this stunning beach, with all the different colors offering unique photo opportunities. The water is shallow for a few meters but the currents can be strong, so be careful when swimming. There are a few resorts in the area, with all the necessary facilities available. The beach is so extensive that it never feels crowded or gets noisy.

Kongo River Beach, Diani Reserve

Kongo River Beach is located in Diani Beach, south of Mombasa, in Coastal Kenya. An extensive white sandy beach, surrounded by nature, just where the Kongo River meets the Indian Ocean. The water is calm and shallow, making it safe for everyone to swim. There is a restaurant at the beach and a few resorts nearby. Keep in mind that the Congo Mosque is nearby; if you wish to visit or walk past, make sure you’re following the dress code (not wearing short dresses or showing your shoulders).


Galu Kinondo Beach, Diani

Galu Kinondo Beach is located in Diani, south of Mombasa, in Coastal Kenya. White sand stretches for as long as the eye can see, backdropped by verdant trees and contrasting against blue waters. The unique views this beach offers are unforgettable, and give you many photo opportunities. There are a few resorts and, restaurants and beach bars in the area, and you can rent jet skis or try skydiving. Even during the busiest days, the beach is extensive enough to allow space for everyone.
