TOP 10 Traditional Cameroonian Foods

The following highlights some of the popular Traditional Cameroonian Foods. If you manage to be in an Cameroonian restaurant or you are visiting Cameroon, I recommend the following:

1. Kati Kati

Is a whole free-range chicken that is grilled and cooked in tomatoes, onions, oil, salt and cubes of tenderloin.

2. Egusi Soup

Its most characteristic ingredient is the seeds of the egusi melon, a bitter melon whose flesh is not edible, but which is highly valued for its rich and highly nutritious seeds. In addition, its dietary fiber content aids digestion.

3. Brochettes

You can find it in the street stalls; it is prepared meat, very similar to the pinchos, but with chicken or fish meat. They also prepare the offal of various animals, which they season very well.

4. Fufu Corn And Njama Njama

A popular Cameroonian delicacy made from finely ground maize, it is served with Njama Njama, which is blueberry leaves stewed in tomatoes and onions.

5. Achu Soup

It is a refined soup prepared mainly in Cameroon’s national cuisine. It is made with cocoyam. It is also prepared with spices, water, palm oil and “canwa or Nikki” and fish.

6. Koki

A delicacy for many locals, it is similar in appearance to pudding. It is a roti made with a wholemeal flour dough enriched with other ingredients such as onions, coriander, cumin seeds and pomegranate seeds. Boiled bananas are the best accompaniment.

7. Ndolé

It is a delicious stew made with peanuts, spinach and bitter leaves, it can also include prawns, shrimps, beef and crabs to improve its flavor, it is accompanied with cassava and other trimmings.

8. Mbanga Soup and Kwacoco

9. Sangah

It is a variety of ndole. It is a mixture of maize, cassava leaves and palm kernel juice.
