TOP 10 Traditional American Samoan Foods

The following highlights some of the popular Traditional American Samoan Foods. If you manage to be in an American Samoan restaurant or you are visiting American Samoa, I recommend the following:

1. Palusami

Palusami is a Samoan staple food made from coconut milk. Samoa uses taro leaves and Samoan cornmeal. It is made by thinly slicing a mixture of beef, onion and coconut before frying. Palusami are very popular for banquets and parties and are very easy to make.

2. Kava

Kava or kava kava is a Pacific Islander culture. The name kava comes from the Tongan and Maksan languages and means “bitter”. Kava is consumed in all Pacific cultures for its sedative properties. The root of the plant is used to make a drink with sedative, narcotic and euphoric properties.

3. Fia Fia

More than just food, it’s a party. Samoa’s famous Fia Fia Nights are nights not to be missed during your Samoa holiday. The night is filled with good food, dancing, singing and the famous Fire Knife Dance, in which men perform a large knife with hot flames on both ends, swirling around their necks, legs, under their arms and around their bodies and tips. The rhythm of the rhythmic music.
