The Cloister was built by joining 5 parts of different French cloisters from the medieval period.  John Rockefeller on one of his travels in Europe bought a collection of sculptures and religious elements.  All this was taken to New York to be assembled and thus form the medieval museum that is known today. The Cloisters now offers one of the most beautiful collections of medieval art objects in the world.
