Plage du Virage

Plage du Virage, Dakar

Address – Plage du Virage, Dakar, Senegal

Plage du Virage is located in Dakar. Is a popular spot with surfers. This small beach gets packed on weekends with a mostly local crowd, though a few foreigners pass by, sometimes before or after a flight as it’s fairly close to the airport (located 1.5km south).

Plage do Yoff, Dakar

Plage Do Yoff is located in Dakar. It is quite wide, frequented by young people, it is very common to watch football games on the sand or surfers playing on the waves. Along its shore you will find several surf schools and some places where they sell freshly made fish for your enjoyment.

Plage Des Mamelles is located in Dakar. In the background has a large mountain of rock, very little vegetation and golden sand, calm water, ideal for a swim. Mostly visited by locals, you will be welcomed in the best way. Take advantage of the day to sunbathe and relax on this beautiful beach.

Plage de Ngor is located in Dakar, in the Cap Vert-Thies region of Senegal. This lovely sandy beach welcomes you with a calm atmosphere and warm weather, perfect to relax. The water is shallow and calm, making it safe for swimming and a favorite beach among families with small kids. You can take a boat ride to Ile de Ngor, where the waves are strong and great for surfing. There are a few places to eat and stay in the area. It can be busy during weekends afternoons but never gets overly crowded.

Popenguine Beach is located in Popenguine, in the Cap Vert-Thies region of Senegal. Unspoiled and clean, this sandy beach offers a relaxing atmosphere perfect to sunbathe and clear your head. Popenguine Beach is truly a place for nature lovers; you can walk south along the beach and reach the Popenguine Nature Reserve, where you can spot fascinating birdlife. There are some restaurants right at the beach, as well as resorts nearby. Avoid swimming too far from the shore, since the undercurrents tend to be strong and dangerous.

The beach is rather popular, but never gets crowded or noisy.


Cap Skirring Beach is located in the Casamance region of Senegal, just where the country meets Guinea-Bissau. This relaxing beach is lined with palm trees, and the long sandy strip is perfect for walking and admiring the scenery. A few resorts along the beach offer delicious meals, great services, and all the necessary facilities. It can feel a bit busy on the weekends, but you can walk north or south where the beach gets emptier and quieter.

Plage des Amoureux is located on the eastern coast of Gorée Island, off the coast of Dakar, Senegal. This unique and picturesque beach offers a quiet atmosphere and dramatic views. Plage des Amoureux (Lovers Beach) is made of both sand and volcanic rock, the latter taking up most of the beach. The water is calm and safe for everyone to swim; however, remember to wear swim shoes since there are rocks underwater as well. You can find restaurants, resorts, stores, and even museums all over the island. The beach is rather small, and it can feel crowded during weekends.
