Start a new adventure that is truly moving and full of history and incredible experiences. Idaho offers you a completely different trip in Silver City, a place that will tell you all its history through its incredible structures, its charming inhabitants and all the energy it transmits.

Activity / Place Highlights

A small ghost town awaits you in Idaho. Although it is not completely ghosting, because you can still see a few inhabitants living in incredible structures of the time that are admired in every corner of the city.

Idaho has multiple cities and ghost towns, however, Silver City is a complete anomaly. It is not a dying city but it is not a modern tourist place either, so you know what to expect. It is a memorial, though not official, of the great Idaho Silver Rush.

You can admire the architecture of most of the buildings and facilities that make up the city. Some buildings are a bit deteriorated, however, they have been preserved for 70 years. In addition, they are educational exhibitions, modest businesses, too, some are the homes of the remaining residents of the city.

How to get there

Silver City is located to the west, in Owyhee County, Idaho, United States. The nearest airport in the city is the Boise Airport (BOI), about 2 hours away. From Boise, you must take a car and head west on Interstate 84 to Nampa. Then, turn south on Idaho 78 towards Murphy. About 5 miles (8 km) south of Murphy, take Silver City Road for approximately 15 miles (24 km).

When to go

Plan your trip from June through October, when temperatures range from 37 ° F (3 ° C) to 80 F (27 ° C). Roads can be impassable in winter due to heavy snowfall.

How Long

It is a small town, some buildings can only be admired from outside. Also, you can have a picnic in the afternoon. It will not take you more than one day to get to know this little ghost town.

Opening and Closing Hours

It is better to start the trip early because to get to the city, you have to go through a dirt road, which takes a little time. If you arrive early, you can visit and know what you like and return at a good time.

Planning

Book your flight in advance because they are not very frequent. Also, if you are going to stay at the Idaho hotel you should also call ahead because it is not that big. You can also search for lodging in Greater Boise.

Inside Information

There is no municipal power service in Silver City and there are no restaurants. Bring your own food and water. Service stations are also absent. The Idaho Hotel is open seasonally and offers basic services. Greater Boise is a cosmopolitan city and offers a wide range of places to stay and many good restaurants.

History

This city was founded in 1864. Silver City developed with an influx of hard rock miners, assailants, prostitutes, pads and itinerant lawyers. The city supported 2,500 residents, all involved in the search for the precious metal, or stripping the miners of their blows once they reached the trash.

You can see the buildings that once housed the pharmacy, the general store, the hairdresser and the bathhouse. In addition, there are also cemeteries were filled with the tombs of miners who lived fast and died barely on the nearby hillsides. More than 200 mines were founded here to work in the rich silver and gold valleys.

In Idaho, you can also visit other places that you will love and enjoy in a big way. The Yellowstone National Park is a unique place and a wonder created by nature. Between mountains, rivers, canyons, craters and hot springs, you can enjoy an unparalleled experience. The best time to visit the park is between June and September when it is summer. However, from December to March it is winter and it is perfect for skiing. Do not miss the opportunity to visit this charming place.
