History

These dunes began to form around 7,000 years ago. Some remains of their formation can still be found in two woodland areas in the heart of the city. Then, 2,000 years later, climatic changes modified the shape of the dunes and they descended.

However, 1,000 years ago new dunes were formed and the development process lasted until the 12th century. Later, the climate was changing up to the point where the vegetation began to grow. At that time, the dunes in The Hague became the cradle of many plants.

Finally, the decision was made to allow nature to develop in that space so that the original dunes and their landscapes could be maintained in the best way.
