Orongo

Another interesting place that you will want to visit is the Orongo archaeological site on the top of the Rano Kau volcano. This village was built for the adoration of God Make-Make, especially at the beginning of spring. Here is the largest number of petroglyphs that reflect the importance of this place. It was also the meeting place of former priests and clan leaders from all over the island.

Rano Raraku

The Rano Raraku Volcano is another recommended place, since the statues of Rapa Nui known as Moái were built here. There are 900 specimens scattered throughout the island and it is believed that these sculptures were created during 700 and 1600 AD. A fact not minor is that, on the slopes of the volcano, there are about 400 moái in different phases of construction, that is why it is also called the quarry of the Moáis.

Ahu Tongariki

This ceremonial platform is almost 200 meters in length and holds 15 moáis, thus becoming the favorite place of tourists who cross the planet to visit Rapa Nui. These spectacular figures turn their backs to the ocean, but look at the Rano Raraku volcano, which gives the place a unique character.

Maunga Terevaka:

This is the highest volcano on Easter Island, with 511 meters above sea level. It is located in the extreme north of Rapa Nui and has several craters. The Rano Aroi is the most important and is in the southern part of the summit. On its slopes are several caverns, among them the Cueva de los Plátanos, famous for its pronounced views of the cliffs. It also has some ceremonial ahu, but they are difficult to access.

Hanga Roa:

It is the center of the island, where you will find banks, supermarkets, shops, handicrafts, car rentals, hotels and tourist information. Its main avenue, Poicarpo Toro, has all the necessary services for visitors, as well as many gastronomic offers to taste the local flavors.

Now, if you visit the island during the month of February, you can enjoy the traditional festival of Tapati Rapa Nui, where you will see how sports competitions are held, the choice of the Queen of Rapa Nui, samples of gastronomy and crafts, dances, music and much more. This holiday becomes the most attractive activity on the island.

Definitely the Rapa Nui island is a paradise located in Chile, at the eastern end of the so-called Polynesian Triangle, in the South Pacific Ocean, which makes it one of the most isolated inhabited island lands in the world.
