Locorotondo

It is another city that you can not miss. This place bears its name due to its circular design and its rings of whitewashed houses that elegantly surround the Chiesa Madre (Mother Church), which has some really surprising Baroque and Neoclassical styles.

The numerous B & B and agrotourism of the valley are ideal for visiting nearby cities such as Castellana-Grotte, Bari, Trani, Castel del Monte, Ostuni, and Matera. Public transport connections are infrequent and unreliable, so you should rent a car.

Inside Information

It is important to know when you will travel. The summers are hot and the winters can be a little cold, however, it is not known what can happen.

We will give you some recommendations for the trip:

  • Take everything in your suitcase, from bikini to coats. We do not know what can happen
  • Remember to book your tickets and accommodation early
  • Rent a car if you can, in some areas public transport does not arrive
  • In Italy the Euro is handled, so be sure to change the currency if you come from another country

History

It is said that this place of Greek roots, Arab and even with some African influence, is not really a Valley. It is a depression caused by a karstic phenomenon. Despite this, with the construction of the Trulli many years ago, this region became quite touristy.

According to the story, the trullis was built with the intention of not paying the taxes paid by the houses. It is also said that they were used to give smoke signals in a dangerous situation. These constructions were attributed more than anything to the peasants.
