Safari in Amboseli

At first, start your trip with an incredible 2-day tour from Nairobi to this incredible park. There, you will visit the powerful Mount Kilimanjaro with its snowy tip. At the same time, you can admire the herds of elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes and many more species. Observation  Hill

Right at the highest point of Amboseli National Park, you will find the perfect observation spot. There, you will have access to the summit that has its focus on the animals inhabiting it. Also, this will give you the best view of the plains and swamps against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro. In addition to elephants and lions, you’ll see beautiful flocks of pink flamingos.

Hot Air Balloon rides

This is the perfect activity if you want to appreciate the wonderful views of Mount Kilimanjaro. At first, you’ll see authentic Maasai villages and herds of elephant around Amboseli. At breakfast, you’ll have your food served at a scenic location in the bush with open African air. Besides, you’ll see the different local Maasai communities and experience with them and their culture.

How to get there

There are two main ways to get to the Observation Hill from the Nanyuki Airport (NYK)

  • By Taxi: it is a 55-minute journey with an estimated price from $75 to 95 USD.
  • By Drive: you can rent a car at the Airport. It is a 55-minute trip with cost from $3 to 5 USD.

When to go

From April through June from November through December you’ll have intense rainy seasons. However, you’ll have greener landscapes. If you want better views and photographs, you should go on dry seasons. 

How long

Visiting the natural wonders of Observation Hill will take about 4 hours. However, for a complete experience, I recommend you stay for at least two days.

You can visit this place all year-round.

Planning

For a full Observation Hill experience, it is best to book a tour in advance. Also, if you want to go there you’ll need $50 in cash to obtain your visa-free. You must know that they do not accept traveler’s cheques, credit cards, and do not give change. 

If you want to have a complete experience by sleeping under the stars you’ll have some amazing guest tents at the camps with comfortable and modern conveniences. 

Also, if you are traveling there, you must have your vaccinations up to date: MMR, tetanus, influenza, yellow fever, and diphtheria.

Inside Information

In this place, you can find different restaurants for lunch. However, you must bring plenty of water. In this place, you can’t miss a thing. So, in addition to your hiking shoes, don’t forget your best pair of binoculars. Also, remember to take your best camera with you so you can taken the most spectacular photos. 

Also, you must be careful because the risk of malaria is hight throughout the country except in high altitude areas. Remember to always cover your arms and legs in the evening. Besides, do not forget your insect repellent.

History

This place has its origins as a clear volcano. It was formed in the period of the Mount Kilimanjaro. From up here, it has expanded to become a gorgeous place with its arid areas. marshes and its lakes. 

On the other side, the Europeans were the first ones in visiting and describing this place. It fact, it hasn’t changed a lot.

You’ll appreciate vas landscape perfects to explore. If you love animals, you’ll love the sight of elephants spraying the blue waters of the Galena. There are also leopards, giraffes, striped hyenas and approximately 500 species of birds.

Samburu, Shaba, and Buffalo Springs National Reserves

Close to the Ewaso Nyiro river you’ll find this amazing reserve. Over there, you’ll see an amazing congregation of lions, elephants, buffaloes, and leopards. Besides, this place will completely take your breath away. You’ll also have the opportunity to do a camel safari. This adventure will be forever in your memories.
