How to get there
You can fly to Volos International Airport (VOL). You can also go by bus, a five-hour trip north of Athens. From Volos you can take a bus to Makrinitsa 35 minutes away or rent a car and drive 15 minutes. It may be a bit difficult to park, so it is advisable to park outside the city and walk 1 km along the paths until you reach the town.
When to go
From April to May it is a magical time when Pelion apple trees bloom in the valleys. Winter brings skiers to Mount Pelion in droves, and the Athenians escape the heat of summer here, so spring or fall is quieter. Avoid Makrinitsa on Sundays, when all flights seem to arrive for the day.
