Madagascar is an independent country, separated from Africa millions of years ago. Because of this, all its natural life grows in isolation and is only found on the island, which makes Madagascar recognized worldwide.
The animal signature of Madagascar is the famous lemur. This animal has different species, from the great Sifaka to the small aye-aye. The latter has an abnormally longer finger that he uses to kill and eat his prey. Local people see him as the bearer of death and although sad, it is common to see how they are typically killed in plain sight.
Antananarivo, Madagascar’s capital beyond looking like an African city, it is rather a provincial French city. Antananarivo is a beautiful city full of government buildings, two cathedrals, and there are still the remains of a palace that was burned down in 1955. It is located on a long rocky ridge, with streets and old houses running down the edge.
The people who live in Madagascar are called Malagasy, and they are very believing and spiritual people, a mixture between the Asian people and the African people. For example, one of their beliefs says that chameleons can see the future and the past, since their eyes turn to all directions, and that they are spirits of dead ancestors, so they avoid killing or injuring them, even when they are driving they are extremely careful not to run over one. There are many species of chameleons on the island.
This wonderful place will leave you impressed with the view of the natural landscape. There is a kind of limestone rock, strange and thorny, that was caused by erosion; it is called Tsingy, and the island is widely known for it. These rocks have sharp points and crevices where the trees and shrubs grow, and they also extend to create almost impenetrable barriers.
There is a variety of trees called baobab that are found in the Morondava region. The plane approaches this area and you can admire thousands of trees in the field. In the Kirindy reserve you can also see lemurs and walk along the Avenue of Baobabs, a dirt road that will take you to a small town surrounded by these very tall and thin trees, high above the people of the town.
In addition to being the lemur the animal of the island, it is very appreciated for its milk and meat, also as a means of transportation, especifically the humpbacked zebu. When the Avenue of Baobabs looks red because the sun begins to fall in the evening, the big trees are crossed by the villagers who go in their carts pulled by zebu to their homes at the end of the day.
