History

Portions of this house are believed to date to the 1730s. It was deteriorating when Georgia O’Keeffe first spotted in the 1930s. At first, it was owned by the Roman Catholic church. However,  O’Keefe was able to own it in 1945.

After that, she modernized the property with her friend Maria Chabot and included her principal studio space.  Nowadays, this house belongs to Georgia O’KeeffeFoundation and it was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1998.
