1. Bunyonyi Lake, Kabale

The lake, 25 kilometres long and 7 kilometres wide, has a fascinating environment, of a beautiful green colour. It is dotted with small villages and groups of houses, where life goes by very calmly. Fishermen with their canoes offer luxurious photos, as well as cows grazing peacefully on the shore of the lake, or women working the land. Another of the charms that this place offers, is precisely what its name indicates (Lake Bunyonyi means in the local language ‘place of many small birds’).

2. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Kanungu

This Ugandan national park is home to the mountain gorilla, a species in serious danger of extinction. It is a protected area with UNESCO World Heritage status. Although access to these sanctuaries is not forbidden to tourists, entrance to the forest is charged at a considerably high rate in order to ensure that these benefits go back into the care of the animals. In addition, visits are made following strict instructions and in small groups to avoid overcrowding that could disrupt the lives of Bwindi’s inhabitants.

3. Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kasese

This national park has an extension of almost 2,000 km and is located in southwestern Uganda. You can go there by road from Kampala. This territory is very heterogeneous, since it has many different ecosystems collected. Some of these ecosystems are savannahs, lakes, rainforests and wetlands. If you go to this wonderful park, you will be able to contemplate the Rwenzori Mountains in the background to culminate all the landscapes. In addition, volcanic remains such as cones and craters can be observed throughout the park. One of its main tourist attractions is chimpanzee tracking. Thanks to this experience you can observe these exciting primates in a safe way, both for you and for them.

4. Kibale Crater Lakes, South Western

Kibale National Park is a protected area located in southern Uganda. It is located at a distance of 310 kilometres from Kampala, the capital of Uganda. It consists mainly of continuous rainforest. However, it is home to a number of different ecosystems. Certain craters offer excellent bathing spots, viewpoints and nature trails, are the habitat of different species of primates, tropical birds and have magnificent views.

5. Budongo Forest, Western

The Budongo Forest is located within the Murchison Falls National Park, here the sighting of chimpanzees is not assured but they are observed relatively frequently if you venture into the park trekking. The trek is booked through the Budongo Ecolodge, a small lodge with prices a bit exorbitant for what it is.

6. Murchison Falls, Western

The Murchison Falls, located in Uganda, was discovered in 1864 and is one of the main attractions of the White River. The National Park stands out for its great animal biodiversity. It is possible to find up to 76 species of mammals, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and hippos. There are also up to six species of primates, such as chimpanzees, baboons, monkeys and baboons. The area has up to 451 species of birds that are difficult to find in other areas of the planet.
