1. Trou Au Natron,Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti
Its size gives an idea of the amazing crater: 8 kilometres in diameter and 950 metres deep, it contains the cones of other small volcanoes. Its technically simple route requires you to get used to walking over irregular terrain and does not interfere with the enormous slope that opens up under your feet as you start to descend.
2. Emi Koussi, Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti
It is a shield volcano, but it is made of lava material and very powerful eruptions. There are many pyroclastic, lava and ash flows inside and on the sides of the crater.
3. Manda National Park, Chari
The nature of nature parks varies greatly depending on the degree of protection and accessibility. Buffalo is a picturesque park with rolling hills and coastal forests. The park includes most of the Lukulu and Lulimala river basins. The park is of great interest to African and Arctic migrants and is a haven for mountain wildlife. Despite the dramatic decline, recent visits have shown that some outstanding groups of large mammals remain, including lions and leopards.
4. Lagos de Unianga, Ennedi
These large bodies of water are found between Tibesti and Ennedi, anomalous areas in the desert. A total of 18 lakes are divided into three groups. Chad is a very stable and volatile country, so it’s best to check before you travel. Especially in the north, the seasons are unstable and small groups of bandits persist.
5. Guelta d’Archei Lake, Ennedi
An oasis, on the Ennedi plateau. Every day, hundreds of camels can be seen drinking the black water of the guelta, their grunts and bellows echoing around the canyon walls. For those adventurous travellers who brave the desert for a trip to the Guelta d’Archei, the reward is a surreal landscape in one of the Sahara’s oldest oases, as witnessed by the rock paintings on the cliffs, some of which date back to the mid-Holocene.
6. Aloba Arch, Ennedi
It is one of the most famous natural arches in the world. Despite its worldwide reputation, it is one of the least visited natural sites on the planet, and not all tourists take long journeys across the expanses of Africa. It is not surprising that only a few intrepid tourists visit the picturesque area. Aloba Arch is often mistakenly referred to as a natural bridge, but it is not.
7. Zakouma National Park, Sarh
The Zakoma landscape is the ultimate example of a unique aquatic and coastal ecosystem, a mixture of open savannah woodland and wetlands. You can see many animals such as monkeys, lions, baboons, giraffes, elephants, buffalo and several antelopes. The fact that tourism is so rare and has no negative or significant impact is what makes the Zacoma Safari experience unique.
8. National Museum of Chad, Yamena
Inaugurated in 1962, its permanent exhibition is divided into 4 areas: Archives, Prehistoric Arts and Protohistory. Its collections range from stuffed birds to ritual masks.
