If you want to know the maritime history of the city, you’re going to love this place. At first, you’ll be able to see a beautiful wooden sailboat moored. On the other hand, you will appreciate a rowboat with many years of history.

The Raney House Museum

Here you can get to know families who have occupied the place for 9 generations. If you like history, you will learn about the story of Apalachicola and its entire civil war. In the main time, you will be able to go through all the valuable pieces it has. For example its furniture and dresses.

Also, you will discover that everything has its meaning with the pleasant tourist guides. Finally, you’ll enjoy this incredible piece of war architecture. They keep their well-preserved appearance. It will be the ideal place for those who loved the civil war history.

Saint Vicent National Wildfire Rogue

If you are a nature lover, here you will be able to have all the nature contact you want. At first, you will get to know the beautiful deserted beach. Over there, you will be able to observe dolphins, eagles, and even exercise with the sound of the waves.

Also, you’ll have the opportunity to take a short kayak trip between Indian Pass Point and the island.

On the other hand, you will have a tour by car. In this one, you will travel to places on the island that cannot be reached on foot. Finally, you will feel how nature reigns there.

How to get there

You can get to Apalachicola from Apalachicola Regional Airport. It’s a journey you can make in a taxi or even walking. 

  • By Taxi: is a 9-minute journey for $19 to 23 USD.
  • By Walk: the Apalachicola city is close to the airport. You can take an hour to walk there. 

When to go

You’ll have the most pleasant temperatures from October to November and fro March to April. If you go from June through September, the climate can be very hot and humid.

To enjoy your visit and make a complete trip. I recommend you to spend around 3 days.

Opening and Closing Hours

  • Apalachicola Maritime Museum

Opens on Sundays from 1:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m

Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m

The Raney House Museum and Saint Vicent National Wildfire Refur don’t have a specific schedule; you can visit them whenever you want.

Planning

Some places can only be reached by boat, so you need to book a good excursion. Above all, be sure you will be informed about the best way of making your excursion and your concerns are answered. 

Inside Information

By being surrounded by so much fauna, you must remember to take your repellent. Keep in mind that these beaches have sharks in their waters. Also, pack up your sunscreen. 

It’s also a place to get away from your routine. As a result, mobile coverage is minimal and there is no Wi-Fi. Also, wear your most comfortable shoes so you can do your tour quietly. Drink plenty of water and snacks.

Finally, remember to wear pants and long-sleeved shirts so you won’t be disturbed by insects or plants.

History

Located between the Apalachicola River and the Apalachicola Bay, this places owes its name to an Indian world. Since its origins, this city has been an important center of history. Indeed, this town had remnants of Native American cultures date back to the Middle Archaic period.

In the same way, this town was under Spanish jurisdiction as part of Spanish Florida. Later, when the Civil War began, this town was used as a transportation artery. Its rivers were perfectly navigable.

Apalachicola is still home for seafood workers and has an amazing oyster production at its bay.
