From the first moment you visit Fiji, you may be a little shocked by the rare beauty of these islands, the Yasawa Islands. Being an island born from a violent volcanic creation, it holds green slopes, valleys and different types of rare and black rocks that make the contrast in the golden beaches, the calm nature, and its relaxed inhabitants. It will undoubtedly leave you impressed.
Fijians previously had no reputation for being friendly, in fact, there were many conflicts between themselves and people from the outside. Many years ago people avoided visiting the island. However, settlers came to the island for trade, and although the Fijian chiefs created conflict in this regard, they ended up yielding in 1874. The British descendants correspond to almost half of the population and were the rulers until the independence of Fiji in 1970.
In Fiji, there is a chain of 80 km that extends to the west of the country and forms 20 volcanic islands. They have an incomparable beauty. You will be amazed by the transparency of the water between Nanuyalailai, Nanuya, Matacawalevu, and Tavewa, when the sunlight hitting these water causes a very bluish color, so much so that it gave the name to the film by Brooke Shields in 1980 “The Blue Lagoon”. You can enjoy diving and snorkeling with almost perfect visibility.
Suva is the main island in Fiji, it is possible to get there from Australia or New Zealand, and from there you can take a fast ferry to the Yasawa Islands. There is also a hydroplane located in Blue Lagoon, where there is a diving center and a restaurant with very good food.
Several of the islands have a great height that will allow you to enjoy a majestic view of the landscape and, if you are a fan of climbing, you can go to the top of Tavewa. The climb is a bit long, but the views of Blue Lagoon are indescribable.
Another point to enjoy the landscape is in Nacula. The island offers a panoramic view, 360 degrees where you can observe the lagoon, the islands that are extended in the distance, the valleys, and on the other hand, the combination of colors, the dark green hills and the contrast between dark blue water and golden sand, is simply spectacular.
You can not leave without trying the Kava, a traditional drink made from corn. It can be slightly intoxicating and is used in ceremonies. It is very common for the village elders to offer it to tourists. It is an important tradition to drink from this, as much as swimming in the blue lagoon or laying on the beach. People really drink it more for its effect and cultural reasons than for its flavor, since it can be somewhat bitter.
As for accommodation, you do not need to be rich to come to this place. There are places of mid-range and even for backpackers, and there are also a couple of luxury places if you want to give yourself a good taste. In the villages, there are guest houses and tourist centers. The place has a varied culture because although many of the houses are made of modern materials, you can also see traditional thatched huts.
