Tracking Mountain Gorilla Tour – Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, is a perfect place to contemplate the top of the volcanoes, the picturesque and varied landscapes that can be seen through the thousand hills also famous for the mountain gorillas that visit it, is one of the greatest curiosities of the contemporary world and one of the most beautiful places in all of Africa.
The Volcanoes National Park consists in a succession of 6 extinct volcanoes whose highest peak culminates at 4,500 meters of height that include Muhavura, Mt Gahinga, Karisimbi, Visoke, Mikeno, and Sabyinyo. These dramatic summits form the scenic trek to visit some of the last mountain gorillas that inhabit the green slopes.
The impact of encountering an adult silver-backed male, up to three times the size of an average man, and still peaceful and tolerant of human visitors, make this park the perfect place to meet the latest families of gorillas. It is possible to get close two or three meters and observe the familiar intimacy of these gorillas that live in the virgin forest of the volcanoes, very close of Ruhengeri. These mammals, well guarded and preserved, deserve a visit that will be unforgettable.
This park also hosts other species of mammals such as elephants, and it also offers a unique opportunity in life to venture through the dense jungle, with golden monkeys swinging among the trees and under the watchful eye of chameleons, looking for these huge primates. Gorilla tracking, however, is not the only activity available in the park. You can also enjoy guided hiking in this incredibly biodiverse area.
The wonders of this beautiful place can also be enjoyed by climbing the Bisoke Volcano in one day or by climbing the Karimbisi volcano, which is a two-day trip camping at night at an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level; as well as doing tours through the caverns and lakes and visiting the grave of the researcher Dian Fossey.
An unforgettable journey!
The walk through the park begins early until you reach the entrance to the park where people are distributed in small groups to explain the way to proceed with the guides and Rangers.
After the explanation, the groups go towards the path that will lead them to the family of gorillas that will be visited, you will walk through the leafy slopes of the mountains, enjoying the wonderful and unique environment that surrounds you in this trip to Rwanda, possibly one of the most memorable and moving experiences in the world; the tracking of gorillas.
The walk crosses bamboo forests, tropical jungle in which we can also observe the great diversity of birds and other primates, one of the reasons why it is considered one of the most biodiverse parks in Central Africa. If you’re a nature and animal lover, you will have the time of your life in this magical national park.
