If you are planning to come to Venezuela, but you don’t have a single beach in your itinerary, let me tell you that you are making a huge mistake that you’ll deeply regret. A dear friend of mine, who is a local travel agent in Venezuela, likes to say that coming to Venezuela but not visiting its beaches is like not being there at all. Indeed, this country has the longest Caribbean coastline in America! So make the most of it!
Let’s get started with our top-5 list! They are not arranged by order of importance, but you should visit at least one of the following:
Playa Madrisqui
This is one of the most representative beaches of the archipelago of Los Roques. With its crystalline, white sand and glorious sunshine, it offers a splendorous tropical scenario. I highly recommend this place for couple travelers who want to spend a relaxing time since the atmosphere is very intimate. Drop by at Cayo el Pirata, where you can get on foot, and delight yourself with the most delicious lobsters.
Playa Medina
It’s at the north of Peninsula of Paria in the Sucre state. This beach will enchant you with its turquoise hue, cold crystalline water and fine pinky sand. That’s right, this is another beach to enjoy snorkeling! There is an extensive forest of coconuts palm trees, which is the perfect place to relax and appreciate the staggering tropical landscape.
Playa El Agua
It’s the most famous destination of Margarita Island with a unique landscape of 4 km of crystalline and semi-oceanic water, thin golden sand and big palm trees. This beach is not only a tourist destination but it serves as a shelter for marine turtles. One of the most prestigious places to lodge at is the Hotel Hesperia, where you’ll be enchanted by the attention of its staff. And don’t leave this place without tasting the “empanadas de cazón” (deep-fried dogfish or small shark turnover pastries). My mouth is watering just thinking of it! Playa Colorada
It’s the prime tourist destination of Mochima National Park at the northeast of the Venezuelan coast. Its main attraction is the red, almost golden color of the sand. Indeed, Playa Colorada is translated as “Reddish beach”. Besides, it’s a good spot for practicing windsurfing and snorkeling on coral reefs, and its temperatures are stable all year round. This beach offers you warm and crystalline waters with soft waves. In addition, there is a possibility of camping on its surroundings with previous authorization of the community.
Isletas de Puerto Píritu
These are two small virgin islands with little vegetation located in the eastern Anzoategui state. These desertic isletas are a real natural show because of the bright white sand, soft waves and crystalline warm water that resembles that one of Los Roques. Since these are virgin small islands you won’t find too many services around, so make sure to bring your own provisions to have a good time. Also, there are some sulfur wells nearby destined to beauty treatments and they are said to have healing properties. Don’t forget to visit the Lagoon of Puerto Píritu nearby; the view and the flora and fauna are worthwhile.
Of course, Venezuela offers a myriad of beaches, but now that you have the best options, I hope that you are excited to visit and swim in one of these Venezuelan beaches.
