The following list highlights some of the best places to visiting in Mauritania. So if you are in Mauritania, I recommend visiting the following:
- Ben Amera, Atar, Mauritania
- Cap Blanc, Gouera, Mauritania
- Plage de Nouakchott, Nouakchott, Mauritania
- Desert Mauritanie, Nouakchott, Mauritania
- Saudi Mosque, Nouakchott, Mauritania
1. Ben Amera, Atar
It is considered the second largest rock in the world after Uluru. About 20 minutes drive from Ben Amera is another smaller rock called Aisha. In 1999, a dozen international artists carved the base of the rock into the rock, creating depictions of animals and abstract decorative figures.
2. Cap Blanc, Gouera
It is home to a colony of monk seals, the last remaining representative of the endangered species. Here, the seals use the open beach as a resting and breeding ground. The estimated group size in 2021 data is 330 birds, so if you want to know more about these birds, this is the place to be!
3. Plage de Nouakchott, Nouakchott
The beaches are a vivid example of the development potential of this African country. Nouakchott’s beaches are home to all kinds of people. Young people who never stop playing football, women strolling along the beach who play an important role in Mauritanian life, camel and horse breeders. You can see the sunrise, the sand dunes on one side, the vast sea on the other and miles of solitude in front of you, an indescribable experience.
4. Desert Mauritanie, Nouakchott
Tourists tour the Sahara desert area, where they can sleep in tents in the desert, taste traditional food and take pictures with camels, dunes and its small vegetation in beautiful nature, dressed in traditional Nouakchott clothes.
5. Saudi Mosque, Nouakchott
Mauritania is a combination of desert and endless beaches, and this combination makes it a natural paradise and makes it the most interesting place to visit. The Saud Mosque is located in the heart of the city and you will definitely see its tall minaret as a valuable landmark in Nouakchott. A magnificent recent building, it stands away from the two distinct minarets.
