TOP 10 Traditional Christmas Islander Foods

The following highlights some of the popular Traditional Christmas Islander Foods. If you manage to be in an Christmas Islander restaurant or you are visiting Christmas Island, I recommend the following:

1. Pickled Egg

Pickled eggs are usually hard-boiled eggs marinated in vinegar or brine. As with many foods, it was originally a way of preserving food that could be eaten after a few months. Since then, pickled eggs have become a favourite appetizer or snack for many and are popular in pubs, taverns and bistros, as well as anywhere in the world where beer is served.

2. Christmas Island Red Crab

Christmas Island red crab is a land-based crab from Christmas Island and the Cocos Islands. This is a delicious crab meat that meets the high quality and taste requirements of foodies.

3. Century Egg

A delicacy made by preserving duck and quail eggs in a brine consisting of salt, clay and sometimes ash, quicklime or rice husks. This liquid gives the yolks a creamy texture and turns the egg whites into a dark gelatinous substance.

4. Coconut Crab

Although the name suggests a coconut bowl, the coconut crab is actually a hermit crab that lives on the islands of Vanuatu. It is considered a delicacy.
