The following highlights some of the popular Traditional Comoros Foods. If you manage to be in an Comoros restaurant or you are visiting Comoros, I recommend the following

It is the national dish of Comoros. It is traditionally made with local rock lobster, although any type of lobster will do, as will prawns, shrimps or even scallops.

2. Achard aux legumes

It is a vegetable salad to which carrots, cabbage, beans, onion, ginger, garlic and other spices are added; lightly pickled.

3. Ladu

Ladu is a sweet plate. It is also popular in many countries around the world. To make the Comorian variation of this meal, you will need icing sugar, rice, cardamom, black pepper and butter .

4. M’tsolola

It is a stew that includes green plantains and soft coconut and seafood or meat. It is also made with fish that is cooked in coconut milk. Other ingredients in the recipe are onions, rice, tomatoes, beef and oil.

5. Pilaou

Pilaou is a fragrant and delicious rice from the Comoros. It can be made with meat and vegetables. Vegetable proteins traditionally made with meat, such as chickpeas, are now also being used to make it vegan. For the meat, the locals mainly use beef, but it can also be made with other meats.

6. Ambrevades au curry

It is a pigeon pea curry. The main ingredients are ground cardamom, coconut milk, ground cumin, turmeric, tomatoes and canned pigeon peas. You can also use other pigeon peas if available.

7. Mkatra foutra

It is a flat bread made with coconut milk including wheat flour instead of the traditional rice flour, it is usually salted. It is served as a side dish at breakfast in the country, served with sesame seeds and in some cases some choose to cover it with honey.

8. Ntrovi ya nazi

Known as a warm, tasty and satisfying dish. Bananas, curry powder, ground cloves, cinnamon, allspice, cardamom and coconut milk are needed to prepare this dish. These ingredients are mixed well and then cooked over medium-low heat.

9. Poutou

It’s a chili spice that can really enrich the flavor of food. Eggs mixed with quinoa and rocket for a fun side dish are also excellent, as is fried fish.

This is an easy to make Comorian dish. The ingredients needed to make roti ya houma pampa are tomatoes, turmeric, black pepper, yellow onion and cod salt.
