Flying-fishing on Inverlochy Castle’s lochs, Scotland

Flying-fishing on Inverlochy Castle’s lochs, Scotland

Breathtaking landscapes made up of moody lochs, exposed moors, and craggy mountains that change before your eyes as the light turns orange showing you the softer side of this place. This is the very exact moment in which the color of the water in the rivers make them look like trails of gold as if it has become whisky.

Once you settle down in the heather-clad banks of the Garry River, you will feel relaxed as you enjoy some fishing, this moment is just for you to get along with nature. If you’re new into the world of flying-fishing, then you don’t have to worry because a gillie can teach you the basics in just a few hours. He will also help you to improve your fishing technique so you can catch some fish with a perfectly placed fly.

Even though there is a variety of wonderful places where to fish, there is nothing like the Garry River, from east to west it flows from Loch Quoich and Loch Garry. If you want to rest, Scotland offers unique places where you can spend the end of your long day fishing, from traditional inns to castles. So imagine for a second that you’re a chief or king of a castle, isn’t that amazing? Well, you can live that experience by going to the Inverlochy Castle Hotel. After a long driveway, the entrance will take you to chandeliered ceilings, hunting trophies, and some food delights in the restaurant.

The grounds of the hotel offer a good view of Scotland mountains. The highest of them all is Ben Nevis, where you can accept the challenge and try to hike it. Also, on the north face of this mountain, you can find one of the most important sources of water that is captured by the Ben Nevis Distillery because it’s part of the ingredients of one of the best known Scottish drinks: whisky. The production of god whisky comes from pure water.

Just for you to know

The service of a gillie can be arranged by the Inverlochy Castle. Accommodation in the Highlands gets fully booked during school holidays and summer season, so try to remember this and either book in different seasons or book with anticipation. Also, if you’re going to fish in the Garry River, it’s important that you know that there can be sudden rises in the water level.
