Dhoni Mighili – The Maldives

Dhoni Mighili, The Maldives, is isolated in the calm waters of the Maldives. It’s what anyone would call paradise on earth. It certainly is a perfect escape for those who want nothing but to relieve stress in the beautiful middle of nowhere.

From the air, you spot a tiny half-moon-shaped island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a white halo of atolls. Dhoni Mighili, literally meaning ‘boat island’, is indeed a place right out of your dreams. The island is so small that it can take you about 20 minutes to walk all around it. Besides, with just a handful of bungalows, it never has many guests at a time so you can have all the solitude you need and all the soft sand and glowing sea to yourself.

Activity/Place Highlights

Get on board a dhoni

These dhonis are boats with double sails, specially built so guests can live on board them if they don’t want to stay on the bungalows. Besides, they are used to explore and tour the surrounding waters. Being only 20 metres long, these lovely boats with fascinating names such as Sublime, Serenity, Dream, Passion, Seduction and Bliss will take you around to nearby smaller islands or go snorkelling. And if you wish, you can calmly sail the flowing waters, a glass of wine in hand. Feel the waves rocking you to a calm sleep on one of the cushioned daybeds; truly a well-deserved luxury.

Pure relaxation

However, the relaxing experience does not stop when you get to the land. There, you can swim in your own private pool, lie down in your bungalow’s garden and breathe in some clean, pure air. Then, lie and curl up on an undholi, a luxurious swing bed used by Maldivian families.

The thakuru service

As if it wasn’t enough with the paradisiac views and luxurious feeling, on your stay at Dhoni Mighili you will be assigned your own thakuru. This is a group consisting of a butler, a captain and two crew members for your dhoni. All at your service 24 hours and all dressed in the traditional and colorful mundu.

In addition, this service is ‘wherever and whenever’. So it doesn’t matter if you wish to sail off into the sunset, or watch the sunrise at the earliest hours of the morning. Even if you fancy a candlelit dinner at midnight under the stars; wherever and whenever, you can have it!

Water sports

Of course, Dhoni Mighili also offers activities for those with hearts that seek adventures. Above all, there’s windsurfing, kayaking and catamaran sailing. There is also a dive school if you want to enjoy the Maldives’ underwater and fascinating action.

The Sen Spa

But Dhoni Mighili’s wonders do not end here. If you want to rest, relax and spoil yourself, then the Sen Spa might be the perfect place for you. With both indoor and outdoor treatment rooms facing the turquoise shimmering waters, it’s easy to drift off to dreamland with the soothing sound of the waves gently brushing the shore and retreating.

The spa offers the highly recommended ‘holistic heavenly bliss’ and yes, it feels as good as it sounds. In short, it’s an all-body treatment; scrubbing, polishing and cleansing, making your skin feel soft like new.

Similarly, for those who still feel the effects of the long flight to the Maldives, ‘the jetlag reviver’ treatment might feel like a blessing for your body. The hot-stone treatment equally restores your energy almost magically using hot, black basalt stones.

Dhoni Mighili cuisine

Fancy meals accompanied by fine wine are essential to your experience at Dhoni Mighili. Don’t be surprised when you find seafood to be a big hit on the menus, what with the clear waters surrounding you. The abundance of tropical fruits can’t be missed, as they make any meal truly exotic.

And the cherry on top: before you even arrive, you will be asked for any special requests you have in mind, including any type of food you like and don’t like. With this in mind, the resident chef will immediately prepare your favorite dishes as soon as you ask. Finally, don’t worry about where to eat. You can choose between dining at the restaurant, picking a spot on the beach, dining on board your private dhoni or even having your table in the water.

How to get there

Dhoni Mighili is located on the Ari Atoll. To get to Dhoni Mighili from the airport at Malé, the Maldivian capital, you can take a half-an-hour seaplane ride over a round string of reefs. Also, you can get a four-hour cruise on a private dhoni all to yourself!
